What does Hillary Clinton see when she logs on to Twitter? Not a lot, actually.
In today’s New York Times, Maureen Dowd criticized the former Secretary of State for following only a handful of accounts.
In her first two days on Twitter, Hillary Clinton did not bother to follow the man she wants to follow. No @BarackObama for@HillaryClinton as of Tuesday night. Hillary debuted firmly entrenched in Clintonworld, following Bill, Chelsea, the Clinton Foundation, the Clinton Global Initiative and the Clinton School.
Here’s what Hillary Clinton sees when she logs into Twitter:
None of these accounts Tweet very often. In fact in the last 24 hours, Hillary’s Twitter feed would have consisted of a grand total of 11 Tweets.
I often tell clients that Twitter is like the news crawl that runs across the bottom of cable news. Only it is a news crawl that YOU control. So with that in mind, here are 5 suggested accounts for Hillary Clinton to follow.
1. U.S. Department of State - @StateDept
Hillary Clinton revolutionized digital diplomacy as Secretary of State. John Kerry has taken it a step further, occasionally commandeering the account with personally signed tweets. Watch this space.
2. Wellesley College - @Wellesley
Young Hillary Rodham’s 1969 commencement address first launched her to national prominence. Twitter is a great way to stay in touch with the alma mater.
3. Food Truck Fiesta – @FoodTruckFiesta
This automated Twitter account tracks Washington DC food trucks in real time. If you aren’t following at least one food truck on Twitter, you’re doing it wrong.
4. Maureen Dowd - @NYTimesDowd
Social media thrives when it has a sense of humor. If Dowd is going to mock Hillary’s account, the least she can do is follow back. And Dowd isn’t exactly setting Twitter on fire herself. Her last tweet was over a month ago.
5. The Iowa Democratic Party - @iowademocrats
Because you never know when it might come in handy.
